california history... and the white house responds after a former aide to president trump calls him a racist and a con. good morning. it's monday, august 13th. i m michelle griego. and i'm melissa caen, in for kenny. just minutes ago -- a "first" at the brand new salesforce transit center in san francisco. a colorful balloon arch and red ribbon welcomed the very first a-c transit bus carrying work commuters from the east bay. kpix 5's jackie ward was there as it rolled in. jackie.. welcome back. we are looking at the first ac transit bus this morning, and jackie ward was there as the first bus rolled on by this morning. >> reporter: this is the second bus and the first is just ahead of it. it was a party here. check it out.

>> reporter: that was the first of many buses that will use this center after 8 years of building here. ac transit provides service to 13,000 people a day and thanks to the new center, it can accommodate 24,000 riders per hour. >> we can dramatically increase the number of riders we bring into san francisco, reducing emissions and congestion, and reduces stress. get out of the car and just ride. >> reporter: there is more than 100,000 square feet here and will ultimately connect 11 modes of transportation altogether. the high speed rail project

currently looking at 61 in concord, 55 in san francisco and 60 for san josi, 50 degrees to start for santa rosa. let's talk about visibility. half moon bay visibility at 2 miles there, and petaluma with dense fog this morning. so be careful there and stay safe. morning low clouds and fog for the coast and parts of the bay. highs today will be 3 to 8 degrees cooler than yesterday, and staying mild through the middle part of the week. we'll talk about what you can expect and when we'll heat up again, coming up in a few minutes. a health advisory has been issued due to the smoke from a grass fire in contra costa

county. it wassish oohed about 11:00 p.m. near north broadway and cistern avenue in bay point. people with respiratory issues could have problems due to the air, although the fire is not threatening any structures. the biggest wildfire in california history is forcing new evacuations. the mendocino complex fire is covering more than 331,000 acres, an area the size of phoenix. the ranch and river fires make up the fire, but the ranch fire has broken that record on its own. they don't expect to have that fire contained until sometime

in september. last month officials talked about the need to clear brush and trees to prevent the fires from spreading. >> everyone agrees active fire management starts by removing the dead timber. >> the carr fire has killed 8 people, including a firefighter who died last thursday. they wanted rent reduced but instead the 49ers will pay more to play at levi's stadium. >> reporter: the city of santa clara and the 49ers have been battling more than two years now. the team wanted their rent cut by more than $4 million a year, saying a clause allows for the reduction if financial performance was better than projected, which it was. the city didn't agree and both sides went to arbitration.

a brawl on a sacramento freeway leaves two men dead. chp says two cars crashed on i- 5 yesterday morning. then the drivers jumped out and started fighting. one man died from blunt force trauma, and the other was hit and killed by a passing car. the freeway was shut down for hours during the investigation. a horrific discovery in lake county, where a man shot and killed his three children before killing himself over the weekend. officers were called to a mobile home park in clear lake yesterday morning and found 39- year-old ricardo lopez dead in the driveway. the bodies of the three children were found dead in the suv. his wife ran and called help when the shooting started. he'd recently been arrested twice on suspicion of domestic

westbound 37. that's a check of your traffic. live look at the san josi cam this morning, waking up to 50s and 60s to start the day. oakland 58 degrees, and san francisco 55, 60 in san josi. it's on the cool to mild side to kick off the workweek here. we have two lows we are tracking. this is what's left of hurricane john out in the pacific. there's a ridge of high pressure that's going to push back. in the pacific northwest and to our south, you can see the lows. that will bring a stronger onshore flow for us and cooler temperatures. expect areas of clouds and fog

as well. more on the delays, coming up. good morning this monday, august 13th. i'm michelle griego. another milestone at san francisco's new salesforce transit center. for the first time, more commuters are disembarking from ac transit buses at the facility this morning. jackie ward was there as the first bus arrived a short time ago. >> reporter: this party carried through here, this new clean floor covered in confetti still. this is the moment the salesforce transit center officially opened for business. the bus got a little tied up at the bay bridge toll plaza but was only a couple minutes late. this has been eight years in

the making and is now home to 100,000 square feet of retail space, rooftop park, and will connect 11 transportation services. ac transit says they are ready to provide service for up to 24,000 people every hour. currently they have about 13,000 riders a day. >> we don't believe there's anything around the world that looks like this transit center. >> reporter: right now there's only a shell of a train station in the basement for the high
